Grooming
The corgi coat consists of two layers - a shorter and soft undercoat (performing an insulating function) and longer, tougher topcoat (additional insulation and protection). Topcoat is also responsible for the appearance of the dog, gives it a color and attractive gloss. Corgi care is not bothersome. On a daily basis you can use a wide tooth comb. For thorough combing during shedding a more dense comb may be useful, eg Spratts No. 71 (only for short-haired corgi), and a poodle brush is suitable to fluff the front, croup and tail up (it also works great as a tool for detangling long-haired corgi's coat).
The undercoat and topcoat grow independently of each other - the first one grows faster and is replaced twice a year, the second slower and during the shedding the dog loses only a part of it. This type of coat is not need to be sheared or shaved even during hot weather, because it would cause a lot of damage not only of an aesthetic character.
For several years in social media it is not difficult to find pictures of fancifully sheared corgi. Such practices apply from Asia. From there also comes the custom of shaving a corgi during hot weather. This is neither proper nor aesthetic. There are other breeds of dogs whose hair is suitable for forming in various haircuts, but corgis do not belong to this group. Also, do not dress up corgi! A well-maintained coat will keep the dog healthy from the cold even during a cold winter.

- A properly maintained, combed undercoat forms an insulating layer, providing protection against both low and high temperatures. It is not true that a dog will tolerate heat better if it is shaved - it will be rather exposed to overheating. The dog does not sweat (the only places where the sweat glands are located are the pads), but it cools down, panting. In addition, skin without protection and exposed to sunlight can be burned. It's also easier to get hurt.
- Shearing and shaving a coat consisting of two layers causes its damage. As the undercoat grows much faster than the topcoat, it will dominate the dog and give it an unsightly look: faded, matte and tarnished.
- Shearing does not make the dog shedd less; as a result of coat shortening, its amount collected from the floors will decrease slightly.
- There is also no justification for trimming the corgi's fur before exhibitions in order to give it an attractive look or hide its defects. The breed standard does not allow such beauty treatments.
- The only coat that can be cut is the one which grow on the underside of the paws.
